2018 Terre à Terre Rosé

2018 Terre à Terre Rosé

The Terre à Terre Sauvignon Blanc was the first wine to be produced from our Terre à Terre vineyard in the 2008 vintage. We followed the example of top end Bordeaux and Sancerre producers who still use large old oak to make their white wines (mostly Sauvignon Blanc). The fruit comes off our closed spaced single vineyard, and we use old barriques and demi-muids (600L barrels) and 2 new demi-muids for alcoholic fermentation. The wine is then racked of gross lees back in the same oak, and aged in barrel for 6 to 9 months depending on the vintage, making sure it does not go through malolactic fermentation to preserve its crispness.

The Terre à Terre Rosé was first produced in 2016. This wine is made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sparkling-base whole-fruit pressings coming from the Bizot Vineyard and the Summertown Vineyard. It will always ferment in small old barriques, and the colour is only obtained by relatively harder pressing of the skins.

Each year, the hand-harvested fruit from the Bizot vineyard and the Summertown Vineyard destined for Sparkling is chilled in our cold room for 2 days before being pressed as whole fruit. We only retain 550L maximum for our sparkling bases and use the remaining juice for our Rosé.

The Terre à Terre Rosé is a excellent example of textural rosé from the very cool climate region of Piccadilly Valley. It is very aromatic and also very savoury.
