The Terre à Terre Summertown Vineyard Reserve is produced every year from tiny parcels of Pinot Noir planted on an East facing slope in the heart of the Piccadilly Valley (Adelaide Hills).
We started looking after the Summertown Vineyard in 2016, mostly to grow fruit for our sparkling wine. Closer observation of the vineyard led us to manage 3 smaller blocks (totalling 0.5 hectare) to make Pinot Noir for Table wine. The vineyard comprises several clones (6 different clones) and is managed to minimise yields and optimise fruit exposure. The soil is clay rich and the climate is very similar to Burgundy.
The wine is fermented in small one-tonne fermenters, with 10-20% whole fruit. After pressing it is aged for 6-9 months in French oak (50% new). It is bottled without filtration and aged for 4-6 months in bottle before being released.
