“ripe but still racy” – 2015 Down to Earth Sauvignon Blanc

CREATING CLASSIC AUSTRALIAN WINES

Some good Sauvignon coming out of Australia, from various parts. The Upper Yarra Valley, Adelaide Hills and Wrattonbully are hot spots.

Gooseberry, quince and grapefruit, light herbal inflection, though it’s not the dominant trait. It’s of medium body, ripe but still racy, with some lemon and grapefruit flavours mingling with gentle tropical fruit. Has an attractive flinty texture, clean acidity and a finish that’s refreshing in the same way a gin and tonic is: that bit of crunch and bitter tang on the finish. Don’t serve it too cold or you’ll kill the flavour and texture, which is no bad thing in many a Sauvignon, but not this one.
