Terre à Terre Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2018
“Shifting up a gear from the Cab Franc/ Shiraz this sees Cabernet Sauvignon (62%) Shiraz (36%) and 1% Cabernet Franc for seasoning. Sourced from the close spaced Crayères Vineyard (1.5m by 1.5m) on the 37 million year old Terra Rossa ridge in Wrattonbully. I wish I’d put this side by side with the Cab Franc blend to see how the structural and flavour dimensions shift from the slightly lighter framed Franc when the blends are very similarly constructed.
Full, yet structured from the outset: varietal parts of blackberry, cassis, wooden pencil, deep violets and lavender while 2nd billing Shiraz offers pepper and leather. Suggestions of mint and eucalypt give a regional stamp over mocha flecked oak. Smooth, yet firm and cooling, akin to polished marble and just as persistent as the rock itself. Top tier showcase of the “Australian” blend that will be just as exemplary in 5 years time.”
