Terre à Terre Crayères Vineyard Shiraz 2014

From vines planted in 2008. Fermented and macerated for 24 days in one-tonne fermenters and then aged in for 12 months in French barriques (70% new from Vallaurine in the Rhône) before being racked into a five year-old 4,000l foudre for six months. It was blended with 9% Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from the same vineyard before bottling in December 2015. Pungent, smoky, almost cordite nose and firm and ambitious on the palate. Serious stuff. Very long with the considerable tannins almost smothered by the intense violet fruit. Just 500 dozen bottles filled. Impressive but not ready.
