“Super wine. Serious wine.” – 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon

CREATING CLASSIC AUSTRALIAN WINES

Surprised to see a cork in this wine, where it was previously screwcap. Still, was a very high quality cork.

Blackberry, oak well in back, garden florals, earth and a whiff of peppermint. Medium bodied, dense tannic and chewy, bit of lift in there, with a big inky finish. Has a strong ‘mineral feel’, which is always a big tick. Super wine. Serious wine. Proper tannin, low oak, real Cabernet.

Beautiful flavour profile.

It unwinds slowly.

Ripe, but not sweet. Minerally and earthen. As you say.

Peppermint, yes, but otherwise it almost doesn’t taste Australian. Which is not meant as either a positive or negative statement. The wine just is what it is.

I’d probably be 93+ but scores aren’t everything. I’d buy and drink this above many wines that I score higher.
