Dark, moody ruby and crimson with a nose of violets, cassis, blackberry, beetroot, roasted kale, black olive, licorice, mocha, dried bayleaf, tobacco, and sweet spice. In the mouth it’s lush, yet dry and tightly shaped with a core of deep, sweet dark fruits, plum, raspberry liquorice, anise-leaning bayleaf, a hint of eucalypt and lovely complementary spices. Firm fleshy tannins coat the tongue, while a charge of acidity carries it all quickly through its arc to a tail that is waiting for a moment to extend itself. It’s a bit nervous and tense right now, but there’s good intensity and laser focus which will see it live a long life. If you want to drink this early on in its life, make sure you give it an extended decant.
