A few weeks ago we had visit from the esteemed wine writer Huon Hooke. Whilst here, Huon tasted our 2012 Crayères Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, which is looking perfectly balanced at seven years of age. Our Sauvignon Blanc is made with the intention for it to be aged. This is a style that many Australian drinkers are still unfamiliar with when it comes to Sauvignon Blanc, being more familiar with the overtly green and tropical “Marlborough style” which has been so commercially successful. However Sauvignon Blanc has as much potential to age elegantly as Riesling or Semillon, when picked perfectly ripe and when winemaking techniques such as the use of oak and lees contact are used. Huon reflects on this in his excellent article “Ageworthy Sauvignon Blanc”, published this week on The Real Review website.
