“A big move in the blend, now with the majority being Cabernet Sauvignon (81%) and only 19% Shiraz (19%). No Cabernet Franc. Fruit comes from the close spaced Crayères Vineyard (1.5m by 1.5m) on the 37 million year old Terra Rossa ridge in Wrattonbully. Definite lift in Cabernet aromas with black olive and cassis, turned mossy earth, hints of mint and eucalypt intertwined with plum and a steely spine. Touches of licorice, Belgian chocolate, crushed violets and ferrous blood. Full bodied with a sense of history, as if the old earth it has grown in extends through the serene, immovable nature of the palate. Plentiful and grounded tight and fine tannins. Savoury dark cassis fruit that maintains life with those herbal, eucy and minty echoes. A decade of opportunity awaits.”
