The name is a French expression for “down to earth”. This brand is a relative of Tapanappa wines in that it’s the project of Lucy Croser and Xavier Bizot, and is grown on a vineyard beside the Whalebone vineyard. It’s from Wrattonbully but it was made at the Tiers winery in the Adelaide Hills/Piccadilly Valley.
It’s a handy cabernet, and then some. There’s some volatility on the nose but the palate is rich and well-structured; substantial. Blackcurrant, chocolate, ironstone, sage. Polished oak gives it smooth veneer but ripe, dense fruit gives the wine its presence. This is a meaningless thing to say but I’ll say it anyway: it’s real cabernet.
