Terre à Terre Summertown Vineyard Reserve – Pinto Noir – 2017
This is a step up in terms of the quality of Pinot Noir released by Terre a Terre with the wine enjoying 15% whole bunches as part of the ferment, maturation in 40% new french oak and bottling without filtration.
The wine is a delicate red in the glass and showcases the year with a nose of red cherry and rhubarb that has floral lift with some savoury whole bunch characters giving an understated smokiness.
Oak gives a vanillin thread thread which provides richness to red and black cherry fruit and is offset by a whole bunch induced earthen disposition. Tannins are are fine but decidedly drying and give substance and texture to the mid palate, with a return of red cherry fruit and weave of oak and stem to finish.
Time is sure to be kind, and the wine represents very good value for money.
